Bally’s Casino History
The history of Jumer’s Casino and Hotel is intricately connected to Rock Island and the wider Chicagoland area, showcasing a rich past.
D. James Jumer began his restaurant and hotel ventures in the 1960s, and in 1988 he expanded by building the Peoria Boatworks Complex, capable of hosting up to 400 guests on a boat. The introduction of riverboat casinos in the Quad Cities in 1991 prompted Jumer to open the Rock Island Boatworks, which became home to Casino Rock Island within a year.
Jumer rebranded Casino Rock Island as Jumer’s Casino in 2008 and launched a new facility. In 2011, Delaware North Companies, known for their expertise in hospitality and food-service, acquired the casino. Delaware North Companies also owns prominent sporting venues such as Boston’s TD Garden.
Acquisition by Bally’s
In October 2020, Delaware North announced the sale of Jumer’s Casino and Hotel to Bally’s Corporation for $120 million. Following the completion of regulatory processes, the transaction was completed in June 2021. Bally’s officially acquired the property in September 2021, increasing their casino portfolio to 14 locations in 10 states. Additionally, they now own a horse racetrack and hold 13 off-track betting (OTB) licenses in Colorado.
The facility received a sports betting license from the Illinois Gaming Board in June 2021, which coincided with its acquisition.
George Papanier, the CEO of Bally’s, declared:
We are excited to announce the successful acquisition of Jumer’s, a key step in our ongoing efforts to diversify our portfolio. This move marks our entry into the rapidly growing Illinois gaming market and presents Bally’s with exciting sports betting prospects that are expected to enhance our financial performance. We are thrilled to welcome Jumer’s into the Bally’s family and look forward to leveraging our experience to enhance its operations.
