Harrah’s Joliet History

In May 1993, hotel developer John Hammons opened Harrah’s Joliet Casino, the first riverboat casino in Illinois. The casino featured a 200-foot yacht called the Northern Star, equipped with 500 slot machines and 40 table games. By early 1994, the Southern Star was also added to their fleet.

In 1999, a $30 million hotel was built, but two years later, Harrah’s Joliet was permanently docked after Illinois law no longer required casinos to be on riverboats.

Caesars Entertainment operated Harrah’s Joliet until 2020 when it was acquired by Eldorado Resorts. After the acquisition, the property was rebranded back to Caesars Entertainment.
