Thanks to Collin Morikawa’s victory at the Workday Charity Open, a bettor from Illinois won $1.1 million.

Over the weekend, a man known as “Cashout King” on Twitter placed several bets at BetRivers Illinois and successfully lived up to his nickname. He raked in over $900,000 from bets specifically on Morikawa, as well as winnings from UFC 251 and La Liga matches.

On July 9, he achieved a significant victory by betting $4,000 on Morikawa to lead the leaderboard after Round One with odds of +5,000. Morikawa scored a 6-under 65 on that day.

The bet raked in $204,000, marking the start of an incredible winning streak.

Morikawa’s victory in the PGA Tour was a major success, as he took a $10,000 risk to win $290,000 and claimed the title of “Cashout King.” This win marked Morikawa’s first PGA Tour victory, as he outplayed Justin Thomas in a playoff on Sunday. Thomas, who was the favorite to win, was ultimately defeated by Morikawa.

Richard Schwartz, president of Rush Street Interactive, the company behind BetRivers.com, stated:

This marks the largest payout in the history of BetRivers.com in Illinois, as well as at all BetRivers.com sportsbooks in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Colorado.

The BetRivers mobile sportsbook has only been available in Illinois for a short time, making it the sole online sportsbook in the state currently.

Reduced limits going forward

The significant payday from BetRivers may bring them lasting publicity, but it could also be a blow in the short term, as pointed out by a veteran oddsmaker on Twitter soon after.

As we approach a busy late-July sports schedule, it will be interesting to observe how this impacts the limits at BetRivers, if at all.

The Memorial, beginning on July 16, marks the PGA Tour’s upcoming event, where Tiger Woods is set to make his debut on the 2020 tour.

‘King’ won as much as Morikawa

Indeed, the “Cashout King” raked in just as much cash over the weekend as Morikawa did.

The following were the top five winners at the Workday Charity Open:

  • Collin Morikawa ($1,116,000)
  • Justin Thomas ($675,800)
  • Viktor Hovland ($427,800)
  • Chase Seiffert ($303,800)
  • Gary Woodland ($254,200)

While Morikawa wasn’t solely responsible for the full $1.1 million betting win, the fact remains that the “Cashout King” had a weekend that any bettor would dream of.

It is important to remember that bets like these are more likely to result in losses than wins, but the losers often go unnoticed. Please remember to gamble responsibly.

Golf betting drawing solid interest for BetRivers

BetRivers has seen a significant boost in activity due to the popularity of golf during the pandemic.

29% of the book’s Sunday action across all states came from the Workday Charity Open. The Rocket Mortgage Classic was the most popular betting event in the state on July 5.

Sportsbooks had a successful weekend with UFC 251, which was a popular choice for betting. BetRivers reported that it was their biggest UFC event ever, surpassing UFC 249, thanks in part to the recent launch of BetRivers Illinois.
