Last weekend, a car dealership owner from Illinois struck gold with a six-leg football parlay that resulted in a massive $2.96 million win.
Marco Piemonte, the owner of the winning Illinois sports betting ticket, is in charge of five Al Piemonte Auto Group dealerships in the Land of Lincoln. His parlay bet included two college football games and four NFL games, with two of the NFL games showcasing major underdogs who ended up winning.
Piemonte made a $65,000 bet with PointsBet Sportsbook, causing them to have a challenging Monday morning upon realizing the large payout of the parlay.
Piemonte’s parlay picks
The initial bet of the parlay was on Minnesota at -145 odds to defeat Michigan State. The Golden Gophers dominated the Spartans with a final score of 34-7, making it a simple victory to start off the parlay.
In the second leg of the parlay, things took a turn when Piemonte bet on Arkansas +2 against Texas A&M. Despite trailing 23-14 in the fourth quarter, Arkansas managed to score a six-yard touchdown run, taking the lead 23-21 against Texas A&M.
The Aggies successfully held off the Razorbacks offense for the remainder of the game, resulting in Piemonte’s bet being declared a push. As a result, the parlay’s odds shifted from +8708 to +4453.
If that game had not resulted in a tie, he would have won more than $5.6 million.
A pair of massive underdogs get it done
During Leg #3, Piemonte bravely selected two unlikely teams to win outright from the NFL’s Sunday games.
The underdog Indianapolis Colts, who had yet to win a game, pulled off a surprising upset against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs with +200 odds. Despite trailing 17-13 in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Colts QB Matt Ryan connected with Jelani Woods for a touchdown pass with just 24 seconds left on the clock. This crucial play secured the victory and kept Piemonte’s bet alive.
In Leg #4, the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the big underdog at +140 on the moneyline, traveled cross country to face off against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence led the Jaguars to an impressive victory, throwing for 262 yards and three touchdowns. Jacksonville dominated Los Angeles, winning by a score of 38-10.
A nail-biting win to cap off the parlay
In the fifth leg of the parlay, the Green Bay Packers were favored by 1.5 points against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the final seconds of the game, Buccaneers QB Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass to narrow the lead to two points. Despite missing the two-point conversion, Green Bay and Piemonte emerged as the winners.
The last leg of Piemonte’s incredible parlay required the Denver Broncos to win by 1.5 points against the San Francisco 49ers. Despite a sloppy performance, the Broncos found themselves behind 10-5 in the fourth quarter.
After that, Denver’s quarterback Russell Wilson orchestrated a 12-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to put the Broncos ahead 11-10. In the 49ers’ last two possessions of the game, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw an interception and running back Jeff Wilson fumbled the ball.
The Broncos emerged victorious, securing the lucrative payday for Piemonte.
