Any doubts about the public’s response to a casino in Rockford, Illinois have been proven wrong. The grand opening of the temporary Hard Rock Casino, called “A Hard Rock Opening Act,” attracted a diverse crowd who have continued to visit in large numbers.
According to the Illinois Gaming Board, the Rockford Casino generated $4.1 million in revenue within the first 22 days of opening, not including revenue from typical table games.
The city and state benefit from Hard Rock Rockford.
The initiation is commonly seen as a win-win situation for both participants and the market. In November, the city received $248,935 of the $4.1 million revenue, while the state received $497,870.
Mayor Tom McNamara has announced that profits are expected to surpass initial projections. The city was originally estimated to generate $1.5 million in revenue, but within just 22 days in November, the temporary casino is now projected to bring in $3 million in yearly revenue.
McNamara claims that the region is still figuring out the best way to take advantage of the upcoming economic boom.
McNamara explained in a recent news conference that currently no additional funds have been allocated, so they will be added to the general fund until resources are allocated. It is likely that this will occur once the permanent casino is closer to being established.
The city authorities have officially approved the allocation of $1.5 million in casino revenue to fund the Rockford Promise initiative. This program is designed to provide full-tuition scholarships to qualifying students from the Rockford Public School District.
There is much to be happy about.
While the Illinois casino has not been moved to its permanent location yet, the temporary venue is already generating excitement. With over 37,000 square feet of gaming space, it features the newest slot machines and top-of-the-line electronic table games in the industry.
There will be two dining choices offered, including a premium option and a more casual option. Additionally, guests can shop at the retail store for a variety of Hard Rock products.
As stated by Jon Lucas, the Chief Operating Officer of Hard Rock International,
Our team’s passion and determination, along with our close connections to local officials, made it clear that Rockford was the perfect choice for our game. As we continued with the project, we made a deliberate effort to bring in new vendors and staff members from the broader Rockford region. This not only helped us build stronger relationships with the community, but also solidified our ongoing dedication to playing a role in its development.
What will happen to the Rockford Casino last?
During the ongoing hotel project, the original Clock Tower webpage will undergo updates, while the temporary Rockford Casino will continue to operate for a maximum of two years.
Once the casino is permanently established, the city can expect to receive $7.5 million annually according to its agreement with Hard Rock.
