Loyola Drew Valentine

You have the option to place bets on Loyola basketball games in Illinois.

The Loyola Chicago Ramblers men’s basketball team aims to continue its winning tradition under the guidance of a new head coach.

Porter Moser, the previous head coach who guided the Ramblers to a Final Four in 2018 and a Sweet 16 in 2021, set a high bar for new head coach Drew Valentine to live up to. At just 30 years old, Valentine is the youngest head coach in NCAA D1 men’s basketball. The team will move to the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 2022-23 season, but for now, they are still competing in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Loyola Chicago Betting Lines Explained

When betting on college basketball, there are three main types of bets. For instance, if the Ramblers are playing against the University of Illinois, the following examples apply:

  • In a moneyline bet, your team must win the game for you to win. For example, in the Loyola vs. Illinois game, Loyola is the favorite with odds of -120. This means you would have to wager $120 to potentially win $100.
  • To win a bet against the spread with Loyola -1.5 against Illinois, Loyola must win by a margin greater than 1.5 points.
  • When you wager on totals like Loyola Vs. Illinois Over 140, you are forecasting if the total points scored by both teams will surpass or fall below the given point total. Last year, March Madness took an unexpected twist when Loyola Chicago surprisingly defeated Illinois, the favored team.

Ramblers prop bets

A prop bet is a bet placed on a specific scenario within a game, such as predicting that senior forward Damezi Anderson will score 12 or more points. While player prop bets are legal in some states, they will not be allowed on Illinois college athletes anytime soon. This type of bet is a controversial topic in the legal sports betting industry.

Loyola Chicago team futures bets

A team futures bet involves predicting an outcome that will occur later in the season. For instance, you could bet on Loyola winning the NCAA Tournament or the Ramblers surpassing 25 wins in the regular season.

How Did Loyola Do Last Year?

Last season, Loyola had a strong performance with a record of 26-5 and securing the Missouri Valley Conference championship. Their standout victory was in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against the University of Illinois. The Ramblers were ranked 12th in the final Coaches Top 25 poll, but unfortunately fell to Oregon State University in the Sweet 16.

The Last Time the Ramblers …

  • At the conclusion of last season, they held the No. 12 ranking in the Coaches Poll.
  • The 11th-seeded Ramblers’ Cinderella journey came to an end with a defeat to the University of Michigan in the 2018 Final Four.
  • Loyola clinched the NCAA Tournament victory in 1963 with a thrilling overtime win over the University of Cincinnati, marking the sole occasion that an Illinois college has emerged victorious in the tournament.

Loyola Through the Years

  • During the 1980s, Loyola had a successful record with six winning seasons out of ten, reaching their peak in the 1984-85 season. The Ramblers had a strong record of 27-6 that year and made it to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament, although they were ultimately defeated.
  • The Ramblers had their most successful season in 1997-98, finishing with a 15-15 record. However, the 1990s were not a standout decade for the program. Luckily, basketball fans in Chicago had the excitement of Michael Jordan and the Bulls to enjoy during this time.
  • In the 2000s, Loyola joined the Horizon League for the 2001-02 season and started strong with a 17-13 record. Despite having several seasons with winning records, they were unable to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
  • During the 2010s, the Ramblers ended their 12-season tenure in the Horizon League by transitioning to the Missouri Valley Conference for the 2013-14 season. Former head coach Porter Moser gained national attention during the 2018 NCAA Tournament as the Ramblers, boasting a 32-6 record, advanced to the Final Four. Additionally, this era marked the emergence of Sister Jean as a beloved figure in college basketball folklore.
