Poarch Band breaks ground on Wind Creek Casino Chicago

Construction has begun on the Wind Creek Chicago Southland Casino in the South Suburbs project, with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians leading the groundbreaking ceremony.

In 2025, Wind Creek will be one of the new casinos in Illinois specifically designed for the state’s gambling community.

Wind Creek Chicago Casino

Bally’s has obtained the rights to build a casino in Chicago, but the location of Wind Creek’s is also highly sought after.

The Poarch Band is building the property at the border of Homewood and East Hazel Crest, located about a 30-minute drive south of Chicago and just a few miles from the Indiana state line.

The strategic location of Wind Creek is expected to attract gamblers from both states, even with strong competition nearby.

For example, just a short 15-minute drive west of Wind Creek’s location is the Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana. Moreover, there are several other casinos located on the outskirts of Chicago.

Despite this, Wind Creek is still aiming to draw in gamblers from nearby regions, especially those looking to stay overnight. Not everyone may be keen on the extra hassle of traveling to a big city.

The proximity of the casino to Interstate 80 is expected to be beneficial. Mayor Christopher J. Clark of neighboring town Harvey noted that Wind Creek’s location sees 80 million vehicles passing by each year.

This will help to further develop the Halsted corridor and increase the chances of future development moving north into Harvey.

The total cost of completing the casino construction project is estimated to be around $440 million.

South Suburbs casino features

Wind Creek Casino is developing multiple strategies to effectively compete with nearby rivals.

The Poarch Band plans to build a 70,000 square foot casino floor that can accommodate over 1,300 slot machines and 50+ table games, offering plenty of choices for Illinois gamblers.

Furthermore, in keeping with typical casino amenities, Wind Creek will feature its own entertainment venue. Spanning 15,800 square feet, this space will provide plenty of space for concerts and a variety of other events.

All of that is located in addition to the building’s conference rooms and meeting spaces.

Wind Creek will soon have its own 252-room hotel, enhancing the overall experience for guests. The addition of overnight accommodations is anticipated to attract more gamblers to the casino as part of its strategic plan.

The project will create 800 job opportunities in the South Suburbs, which will have a positive impact on the entire region.

Construction has finally begun on the casino, so gamblers can look forward to visiting in a little over a year.
